I was a little cautious lining up to see Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby' as I found his version of 'Romeo & Juliet' a little disappointing, however I found myself pleasantly surprised and simply loved this movie! Of course I was looking at the makeup throughout and was inspired to create this look.
This look was inspired by the character 'Daisy Buchanan', the main love interest in the movie. Her look was not particularly reminiscent of the typical 1920's makeup, it was much softer to emphasize her natural beauty.  So I left my face completely bare (if you need coverage I suggest using your favourite BB cream) and just used moisturizer and a translucent powder ('Rimmel's 'Stay Matte' powder).
The eyes were Daisy's strongest features in the movie (minus her short blonde hair) but were still kept fairly natural (unlike the other characters in the movie). I used 'Maybelline's 'Color Tattoo' in 'Bad to the Bronze' very lightly over my lid as a base, and layered 'Suspect' from the 'Naked2 Palette' over it. In my crease I mixed the shadows 'Luster' from the 'Stila in the Light Palette' and the matte chocolate brown colour from the 'Napoleon Perdis' Mum's the Word Palette' (excuse the well worn state) and blended like there is no tomorrow! I very lightly used Stila's 'Smudgestick in Damsel' in between my lashes just to give the appearance of fuller lashes (I did not use it to line my eyelid) and layered Maybelline's 'The Falsies Flared Mascara' over my lashes.
The main thought that popped into my head every time I saw Daisy was "Holy geez those are some loooooooong eyebrows!" However they didn't look particularly drawn on and I was surprised when I tried it myself that it actually didn't look terrible (I used an eyeliner which I have since lost and forgotten to photograph, sorry!)
To finish up and  conceal my big ol' bags I used L'Oreal's 'Lumi Magique Highlighting Pen' just around the perimeters of my circles and blended inwards. I know that this is typically not used as a concealer, but I find this is one of the only products light enough for my skin. I also wanted to keep the look as natural as possible.
Have you been the see 'The Great Gatsby' yet? What did you think of it?
